Week 4 Notes Homework and Videos

 NOTE 1:  WORK OUTSIDE (IN YOUR FENCED IN YARD IS FINE) ON THE SIT COMMAND.

NOTE 2:  DO AS MANY OF THE OLDER COMMANDS AND EXERCISES AS YOU CAN OUTSIDE THIS WEEK EVEN IF IT IS JUST IN YOUR FENCED IN YARD.


Homework Schedule:

Calming Exercises (YOU CAN ROTATE THESE ON DIFFERENT DAYS LIKE MONDAY SIT ON THE DOG TUESDAY LONG PLACE):

  1. (CHANGED) Sit on The Dog 30 + minutes Goal:  To get your dog to lay down on their own steam in five minutes or under.  Week 4 Change:  Try to do this in your fenced in yard as much as you can this week.



  2. (CHANGED) Long Place 30 minutes Goal: To get your dog accustomed to staying on the place as their safe space.  Week 4 Change:  Try to work this outside in the yard as much as you can.  Use the long line outside, so you can catch him if he tries to break for the fence to see what is going on.

Obedience Exercises:
  1. (NEWISH) Approach by Friendly Stranger 5 + minutes Goal:  To be able to have him stay as "friendly stranger" approaches and then stands by him four times in a row without needing a correction.  Also the second part if possible where the "friendly" stranger gives him a causal short pat.

  2. (CHANGE) Sits with Interim Correction OR Sits with Just Collar Correction When Needed 10+ minutes.  Goal:  To get three sets of four in a row sits without needing to correct (verbal or collar) in 7 minutes or less..  Week 4 Change:  Do these outside in your fenced in yard as much as you can this week.

  3. (CHANGE) Recall or come repetitions 15 repetitions  Goal:  To get four in a row really clean ones without having to tug your dog.  Even better if you can get three sets of four in a row really clean ones.  Week 4 Change:  Do this exercise INSIDE still.  Also use treats like we did in the lesson.



  4. (CHANGEDCircle Sit Stays 5+ minutes Goal:  To eventually get four in a row sit stays for 1 minute a piece.  Week 4 Change drop the leash when you do these INSIDE  Alternatively, you could start these holding the leash outside in your fenced in yard.   





  5. (CHANGED) Send to Place 7+ minutes  Goal:  To get your dog to step on themselves for times in a row for 3 sets.  Week 4 Change:  Try to practice these outside as much as possible this week (in the fenced in area).  These may start out taking longer as that is more distraction.  The goal is to get them done in 5 minutes or less (outside in the fenced in area ideally)

  6. (CHANGED) Circle Place 7 minutes or less  Goal:  To be able to perform 4 circle places in a row for one minute.  Week 4 Change:  Try to practice these outside as much as possible this week (in the fenced in area).  You will also probably have to go down in time and build these back up to a minute especially outside.
